"doctor"

In the Census, when we use the term ‘doctor’ we include any licensed medical professional that provides your community with medical services up to, but not including, surgery. This therefore may include: nurse practitioners that are authorized to diagnose and possibly write prescriptions, dispensary technicians who can also diagnose or deliver prescription medications, traditional medicine providers, as long as they are recognized by the state or tribe as medical professionals.
