For the Census, this refers to a major wave of insects, usually but not always in flight, that either caused people to become sick, destructively took over crops in a significant way, or hurt live stock and other animals. Insect invasion, for the Census, does not refer to a dwelling’s localized insect infestation such as moths or termites.
