The IPCC works under the UN as a scientific organization. It was established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environment Programme. Its purpose is to offer the world an unbiased, scientific assessment of climate change and its effects. In 2007 the IPCC and US VP Al Gore received the Nobel Peace Prize.
