• The World: Think of the whole world including the political spaces known as countries but also the physical space known as the biosphere.
• My Country: Throughout the Census and its questionnaires, unless otherwise specified, the term 'country' refers to one's country of current residence not your country of birth or citizenship; it is the country in which you live currently.
• My Region: This area includes 'where you live' but also the surrounding area. In a large metropolitan area like Tokyo or New York, this would be the entire metropolitan area. If you live in a smaller town, consider the 'region' a place that you could get to in under half a day, or six hours of travel by whatever means of transport. A region is also considered as the area that you consider to be 'similar' to yours, or broadly in the same 'administrative' area so if you live in a border region, it would not include the area in the adjacent country. This 'region' will usually share similar architecture, language and history.
• Where I live: This is your neighborhood, or if you live in a rural area, your vicinity or your community. This is an area that you can get to easily in under one hour of travel whether by car, public transport, foot or other. It is the area that would usually include your school, where you buy your food, or go to the cinema. If you live in a large metropolitan area, this is not the entire area, in Paris it would be considered your 'arrondissement', in New York it might be Greenwich Village or Harlem, in a rural area it might be your parish. This area can also be referred to as your 'nearby' area.
• My Dwelling: This is where you live, some would call it your 'home' whether it be a house, an apartment or a temporary shelter and whether you own, rent or live there for free.
